"I grew up in the Bay Area and began riding and showing ponies at a very young age. My junior years were spent training with Karen Healey in southern California. In 1996 I won the PCHA Horsemanship Finals. After a two and half year break to focus on academics, I returned to riding with Karen Healey in July of 1999. That fall I was Res. Champion in the AHSA Zone 10 Regional Medal Finals. In addition, I finished in the top 10 of the Zone 10 Maclay Regional Finals which qualified me for the National Horse Show at Madison Square Garden. At the Pennsylvania National, I finished in the top 25 in the AHSA Medal Finals.

Throughout college, I tried to balance my time between studies and getting more experience in the jumper ring. Between 2000 and 2003 I gained valuable experience working and riding with various professionals in the San Francisco East Bay. During this time I also worked on developing young jumpers which I eventually took to shows ranging from Del Mar to Spruce Meadows.

I was fortunate enough to culminate my amateur career by winning the CPHA Senior Finals in 2002.

In 2003, after earning my Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology at St. Mary's College of CA, I opened Shady Lane Farm, LLC at my family’s facility in Alamo, California.

Since turning professional and opening Shady Lane Farm, I have tried to focus not only on the improvement of my students' riding skills, but on my own as well. I have been lucky enough to work with respected professionals such as Mandy Porter, Dick Widger, Leslie Burr Howard, Lise Quintero, Buddy Brown, and my teacher of many years, Karen Healey. One thing that I truly believe is that our sport will always continue to progress, and in order to stay at the top, and in order to continue to provide the most accurate and up to date coaching techniques, it is critical that we as instructors continue to learn.

Matt and I are proud to offer a training situation that is based upon the theories of positive teaching, and one that incorporates good solid horsemanship and time honored riding techniques.
